Karen Kearsley, BSN, RN
As a high school graduate I was torn
between Nursing and Computer Science. I entered college
as a nursing major and graduated in '92 from UMASS,
Amherst. My first experience as a new nurse was in a
GI unit in the process of a transition to a GI/Telemetry
unit. I then worked in a hemodialysis unit where I enjoyed
my work and my patients for the next five years. During
this time I dabbled in web development.
It seemed my nursing career was cut
short when I was advised to stop working on my feet.
I left nursing and went back to school achieving a certificate
in Client Server Programming at Clark University in
Cambridge, MA. After working in the computer industry
for a few years my love of nursing brought me back.
I was a school nurse by day and surfed the web for resources
and developed web pages at night.
Today I live in the Boston area with
my husband, son (6), and my daughter (4). I enjoy spending
my time updating SNJourney.com and doing my part to
help advance the nursing community.
